Forests protester ready for jail in Australia
Activist Simon James Peterffy has been warned he faces jail if he continues to protest illegally after rancid butter was dumped on a desk at the Forest Products Commission. But the veteran environmentalist, one of three who boarded a Japanese whaling security vessel in January, was undeterred when given a six-month suspended jail term in Perth Magistrate’s Court May 7.

Protestors disrupt fracking auction in Michigan
An auction of state-owned oil and gas rights on 109,000 acres across lower Michigan, including Oakland County, was briefly disrupted April 8 by anti-drilling demonstrators. One protester, who stood up as bids were being taken and began to talk over the auctioneer, was taken into custody for disturbing the peace.

Energy conference disrupted by protest in UK
On May 3rd, hundreds of protesters from climate and anti-cuts groups across the country teamed up to block the UK Energy Summit in the City of London. They descended on the conference venue at 11.45 am, saying they intended to remain there to disrupt the UK Energy Summit. At least 300 protesters targeted all of the main entrances to the Summit venue, attempting to push past police to enter the conference.

Young Nepalese-Belgian environmentalist wins prestigious international award
Dawa Steven Sherpa, 28-year-old mountain guide and adventure pioneer, has been awarded the first ever WWF International President’s Award during a special ceremony at global conservation organization WWF’s Annual Conference in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Now a professional guide, mountaineer and conservation activist in the Himalayan region where he grew up, Dawa Steven Sherpa is a graduate in business administration and heads an adventure trekking company that encourages respect for nature among mountaineers and explorers. He had climbed four 8,000-metre peaks by the age of 24 – including Mount Everest, twice.
