OscarsJoe Romm, writing for Thing Progress, points out the frightening reality of mainstream media coverage of arguably the biggest story of this century – the massive damage we are doing to this planet.

As people get excited about the movie Oscars, and the media is full of the stars, Romm points out the dangers posed by climate change and the damage we are doing to the environment are not being covered with the urgency needed.

In the story, Apocalypse Not: The Oscars, The Media And The Myth of ‘Constant Repetition of Doomsday Messages’ on Climate, he says it’s “business as usual” with the media ignoring the elephant in the room.

As he says, “You’d think it would be pretty obvious that the public is not going to be concerned about an issue unless one explains why they should be concerned about an issue.”

That explanation is desperately needed.
