As the news service Truthout points out, there might be some who want to shoot the messenger when they come with a message as dire as that conveyed by environmental writer Richard Smith.

Smith, in a story for Truthout called Green Capitalism: The God That Failed, lays waste to the idea that all we need to do is buy green products, recycle and use bicycles when we can in order to prevent a catastrophic rise in CO2 and global temperatures.

As Smith says in his story, the results are in: No amount of “green capitalism” will be able to ensure the profound changes we must urgently make to prevent the collapse of civilization from the catastrophic impacts of global warming.

Read the story and take time to watch the interview with Ted Asregadoo of Truthout to see what Smith proposes as an alternative to a “greenwashed” capitalist future.
